Platinized
Titanium and Niobium Anode
Platinized
Titanium Rod Anodes

Platinized
Titanium Rod Anodes
The two most common platinized anodes in use in the cathodic protection
industry incorporate titanium and niobium substrates. The performance
of these anodes in seawater at high current densities is well
established.
Applications:
•
Pt/Ti-Nb-Ta rod anodes are widely used for internal protection
of condensers, process equipment etc.
•
Pt/Ti-Nb-Ta wire anodes are used for internal protection of water
tanks and pipelines.
•
Pt/Ti-Nb-Ta mesh anodes are used for protection of reinforced
concrete structures.

information about Platinized Titanium anodes, kindly contact AFIC
sales department.
Mixed Metal Oxide Anode
The
MMO anodes are composed of a titanium-ribbon substrate coated
with a mixed-metal-oxide catalyst. Because the titanium substrate
is naturally passivated by an oxidizing film, the ribbon anode
remains dimensionally stable over time. Direct current transfer
is accomplished through the mixed-metal-oxide catalyst, which
is highly conductive, and fully oxidized so that the higher current
outputs are possible. This two-part composition allows for a maximum
current density of 5.0 mA/sq.ft. to achieve a 50-year design life.
MMO
Tubular Anodes
Tubular
anodes are manufactured using titanium which meets ASTM B338 Grade
1 or 2 Standards. Mixed Metal Oxide Anodes have an extremely low
consumption rate. The titanium substrate remains constant throughout
the design life of the anode therefore these anodes are also familiar
as Dimensionally Stable Anodes (DSA).

MMO
Rod Anodes
Rod
Anodes are comprised of a titanium substrate with a mixed metal
oxide coating. The mixed metal oxide is a crystalline, electrically
conductive coating that activates the titanium and enables it
to function as an anode.
MMO Rod anodes
are designed for application in:
•
Process vessels
•
Water condenser boxes
•
Heat exchangers
•
Water intake structures
•
Groundbed applications
Standard
length is 4 ft, but the anodes may be custom cut to virtually
any length. They are available in the following diameters: 1/8",
1/4", 1/2", 3/4". Anode coatings may be selected
to match fresh water, brackish water, seawater, coke, or sand
environments.
MMO
Wire & Ribbon Anodes
MMO
anodes are available with Wire or Ribbon shapes. The titanium
used in manufacturing meets ASTM B348 for wire and ASTM B265 for
ribbon. The titanium is coated using Mixed Metal Oxide Coating
suitable for the application. MMO wire anodes can be supplied
in canister.
MMO
Wire anodes are designed for applications in:
•
Canistered anodes
•
Continuous horizontal groundbeds
•
Discounting horizontal groundbeds
•
Shallow vertical groundbeds
•
Above ground storage tanks
•
Underground storage tanks
•
Natural water
•

Mesh Strip Anodes
Mesh
strip anodes are manufactured using titanium expanded mesh substrate,
which meets ASTM B265 Grade 1 or 2 standards, and MMO Coating.
Mesh
strip anodes are 1.25" wide x 48" long and are rated
5 amps for a 20 year design life in calcined petroleum coke. The
MESH STRIP ANODE can be packaged in a spiral wound, galvanized
steel canister or a fabric sleeve.
Graphite
Anodes

Graphite Anode
Graphite anodes have been a standard for cathodic protection for
many years. They are considered a reliable impressed current anode
and are used extensively throughout the industry. Being a porous
metal, gases produced in the internal pores and result in mechanical
& chemical deterioration of the anode that cause softening
& swelling. Therefore graphite anodes supplied after treating
by oil, wax or resin, then the penetration of the electrolyte
reduced and mechanical strength is increased.
Low
in cost, graphite anodes, used in conjunction with carbon anode
backfill, provide long-term performance characteristics for many
cathodic protection applications.

AnodeFlex
Anode System

AnodeFlex Anode
AnodeFlex
is an impressed current, flexible cable anode system for use in
cathodic protection of buried structures. Placed alongside a pipe
or other buried metal structure, AnodeFlex provides uniform cathodic
protection to every point, with a minimum of interference from
adjacent structures.
The
four basic elements in the AnodeFlex system:
•
A high
performance coke breeze serving as the active matrix in which
the anodic reactions take place.
• A copper conductor serving
as a low resistance busbar to deliver the required urrent over
considerable distance without incurring substantial longitudinal
voltage drop.
• A special conductive polymer
that seal the conductor from chemical attack, yet allows current
to flow from the conductor to the environment all along its length.
• A fabric jacket to hold the
coke breeze in place around de anode cable. This jacket is designed
to resist electrochemical attack, but to allow current flow from
de anode to the surrounding soil.

Pyramid (Marine) Anode
AFIC Pyramid Anode
AFIC introduces
to its customers an innovation for cathodically protecting offshore
marine structures-the PYRAMlD (marine) anode.
Specially
developed by AFIC's cathodic protection specialists for Aramco
offshore use, the PYRAMID anode marks a major advancement in anode
technology in terms of performance and low cost for impressed
current systems applied offshore.
The
anode consists of a four-vaned titanium substrate coated in a
mixed metal oxide electro conductive film mounted on a high-density
waterproof concrete pyramid to provide negative buoyancy and sea-bottom
stability. Water seals are designed to established engineering
principles and do not rely upon the dubious effectiveness of fillers,
mastics resins and the like.
The
anode comes fully assembled with special double-armoured insulated
cable and requires only the installation contractor to lower the
anode onto the seabed and terminate the onshore end of the cable,
resulting in minimal installation time, and further cost savings.
The standard unit is rated at 170 amps max but other ratings are
available.
The
PYRAMID (marine) ANODE is ideally suited for platforms, sheet
piling, jetty piles and all similar offshore facilities. AFIC
is confident that the PYRAMID ANODE will attract extensive interest
for offshore cathodic protection applications.
